Terms
Effective date: October 2026
These terms govern your use of caplanlegal.ca (the “Site”), operated by Caplan Legal Consulting Professional Corporation (“Caplan Legal,” “I,” “me”). By using the Site, you agree to them.
Not legal advice
The Site provides general information about my practice. Nothing on it is legal advice, and it should not be relied on as a substitute for advice about your situation. Content relates to the law of Ontario and Canada unless stated otherwise. I am licensed to practise law in Ontario and work with local counsel where another jurisdiction’s law applies.
No lawyer‑client relationship
Using the Site, submitting the contact form or exchanging emails with me does not create a lawyer‑client relationship. That relationship begins only after I have checked for conflicts of interest and we have signed a written engagement letter.
Before you send information
Please don’t send confidential or sensitive details until I have confirmed that I can act for you. Send only what I need to check for conflicts: who you are, the other parties involved, and a short description of the matter. If I can’t act for you, I may not be able to use or rely on what you’ve told me, and receiving unsolicited information may not prevent me from acting for others.
Intellectual property
Content on the Site is owned by Caplan Legal or used with permission. You may view and print it for your own reference. You may not reproduce or republish it for commercial purposes without permission. Quoting it with attribution and a link is fine.
Acceptable use
Don’t use the Site to send malicious code, attempt unauthorized access, scrape content by automated means, impersonate anyone, or for any unlawful purpose.
Accuracy and availability
I aim to keep the Site accurate and current but don’t guarantee that it is complete or up to date. I may change or remove any part of it at any time.
Third-party links
The Site may link to other websites. I don’t control them and am not responsible for their content or practices.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The Site is provided “as is.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, I disclaim all warranties and am not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to CAD $100. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Privacy
Your use of the Site is also governed by the Privacy policy.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction.
Changes
I may revise these terms. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept them.
